I've lived most of my life in the University of the Philippines
Diliman campus. My father was a professor at the University and because of that, we had a house on
campus. I was born in Manila and spent the earliest days of my life in UP - but I didn't go
to UP Elem though. I spent my childhood in Aklan where my family is from and then came back
to UP in high school and college. After graduation from vet school during the same year my
father retired, I was recruited as a faculty member of the school - so I continued living on
campus until 1985 when the veterinary school moved to Los Banos in Laguna. I still continue
my ties with UP as my father still lives on campus and every time I think of home, I think of
UP as well.

My family in our house in UP ca 1969. Front (L-R): Tatay, me, and Nanay. Back (L-R): Nong
Nap (a first cousin on my mother's side) and Nonong. My other brother probably took this picture
that is why he isn't in it.
This last visit was strange - I went home - but I stayed in a hotel - Bahay
Kalinaw on campus. I couldn't stay at our house because my room was occupied
by my niece. It was a strange feeling - I was home yet I couldn't be home.
In these pages though are pot shots I took during my last visit of the place I consider home. I'm
sure many alumni reading this page will also appreciate looking at these pictures. The campus now
is such an oasis - away from the traffic, the noise and the pollution - an island of green, peace
and fresh air. Early mornings are really beautiful - you can see the mist rising from the trees.
I have to
say though, I took a lot of pictures of the campus when I was there - but for some reason - I lost
the roll of film that contained most of the shots. Thank goodness these ones were not lost.
