Sundays at Moosewood Restaurant by the Moosewood Collective. A Fireside
Book (Simon and Schuster), 1990. I love this book. It is sectioned into different
countries/regions of the world but not all regions are included - only regions to where
members of the collective have lived or have traveled are included. The Southeast
Asian section is authored by Bob Love who has lived in the Philippines for 7 years and
has traveled around the area. Thus, the recipes presented, especially for the Philippines
are very authentic and very personal. Love also has a section on customs and traditions
of Southeast Asia particularly those pertaining to food. Also, because of his
experience, he is able to fuse the best between Western and Southeast Asian cooking/
eating traditions - for example, what type of drinks to serve with a particular
country's cuisine - and there are lengthy explanations about Southeast Asian sauces
especially about patis. What I also like about this book is that the recipes
are presented in a way that one
can create a simple meal or a feast. And for the fact that I not only get great
Filipino recipes but also recipes from all over the world. It's a bargain.
