This is a monumental book - covering Philippine Costumes throughout the ages. There are hundres of photographs, in black and white and in color, of tribal costumes, 19th century dresses, dresses of the roaring 20s, models of the 50s and the 60s. "Why should white guys have all the fun?" How Reginald Lewis Created a Billion-Dollar Business Empire by Reginald F. Lewis and Blair S. Walker. John Wiley and Sons, 1995. The biography of Reginald F. Lewis, the late chairman, chief executive, and principal shareholder of TLC Beatrice International Holdings, Inc., the biggest African-American transnational corporation. After his untimely death, his wife, Loida Nicolas-Lewis took over as chairman of the corporation. From the book: "This a moving saga of personal courage and termination as well as a virtual how-to book for thos ewho would like to follow in Lewis's footsteps. Very interesting reading - especially the section on the courtship of Loida Nicolas by Reginald Lewis (which is the only section I so far has read).

How to get a green card: Legal ways to stay in the USA by Loida Nicolas-Lewis. Nolo Press 1995. Loida Nicolas-Lewis was a successful immigration lawyer before she took over her late husband's job. This book has been touted to be THE authority on immigration strategies.

Dead Season - A Story of Murder and Revenge on the Philippine Island of Negros by Alan Berlow.

Dead Season is a gripping story of three murders in the tumultuous Negros Island. While Philip Finch's Sugarland is fiction (see the fiction shelf), Dead Season is factual --- yet it reads like a mystery novel.

From the book:

"An engrossing gothic tale, the more amazing because it is factual. Dead Season captures the texture of the island's hallucinatory sugar baron fiefdoms - a mix of myth and politics, religion and superstition, rumor and history, from which arise often inexplicable tragedies." - Ninotchka Rosca, author of Twice Blessed.
