Brain Weight of Filipinos

The weight of each of the brains of 113 full blooded Filipino natives who had died was taken to the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. Total weight: 150,690 grams. Average weight per brain: 1,333 grams.

This was compared with the brain weight taken of the European brain (Scotch and English) and other races (Asian and African). The results shwoed that the average weight of the Filipino brain was high and compared favorably with the brain weight computed for European nations.

The result, if the figures are an indicator of the higher mental faculties of man, is not discouraging to the Filipinos nor to the Americans who claim that, as a people Filipinos may be educated to the same degree of civilization as the western nations. - from Maximillian Herzog (1908).
